Proposed Guidelines for Local Proctors

Every branch in Atlantia, particularly groups of baronial status and above, is encouraged to maintain a warranted Pages’ Academy Proctor for their branch to work with Pages, Sponsors, and Pages’ parents/legal guardians in the Atlantian Pages’ Academy. Proctors serve as deputies to the Minister of Minors and should work closely with that office.

  • For those groups without a local Proctor, the Minister of Minors shall be responsible for the duties of the office. For those groups without a Proctor or Minister of Minors, the Seneschal shall be responsible for the duties of the office.
  • Pages from groups without a warranted Proctor are permitted to participate in the Academy program.

The Purpose of the Pages’ Academy Proctor

  • To encourage and facilitate participation in the Atlantian Pages’ Academy (in which youth ages 9 and above are given opportunities and incentive for working on SCA-oriented service as well as learning about and practicing the arts & sciences, courtesy, responsibility, honor, and chivalry) on the local group level.
  • To coordinate appropriate activities which may be offered for credit within the Academy’s ranking system, and to encourage Pages to pursue areas of the program which interest them.
  • To assist Pages, Sponsors, and Pages’ parents/legal guardians with questions regarding the Pages’ Academy, its requirements, forms, and activities.
  • To report to the Dean of the Pages’ Academy on local activities for Pages according to the schedule and requirements set forth herein.
  • To provide information about the Pages’ Academy to members, newcomers, prospective Pages, and the general public.

Reporting

  • It is the duty of the Proctor to keep the Dean informed of local developments relating to the branch’s Academy-related activities through regular reports.
  • The reporting schedule for the local Proctor shall be at a minimum quarterly, the same as that of the seneschal. If there is no activity related to the Pages’ Academy during a specific period, specify such.
  • Canton Proctors report directly to the Dean. Copies of all reports to the Dean should be sent to the canton’s Seneschal and Minister of Minors, as well as the Baronial Seneschal and Minister of Minors.

Warrants

  • A Proctor must be at least 18 years of age.
  • To receive a warrant, a postal letter (not email) should be sent to the Dean stating the outgoing Proctor’s (if any) intent to resign, and the nominee’s willingness to accept the office. The letter must include the nominee’s SCA and legal names, complete address, telephone number, email address (if any), local group, membership number, and membership expiration date. It should be signed by the outgoing Proctor (if any), the group Seneschal, and the nominee.
  • Each Proctor shall be warranted for a term of two years. In order to be re-warranted, they must follow the same procedures for the initial warranting, but indicate that it is for a renewal. Proctor may resign from office prior to the end of their warrant but are requested to send a written communication to the Dean to that effect and copy their branch and baronial Seneschal and Minister of Minors (as appropriate).
  • A Proctor may hold other offices, at any level, but such offices should not interfere with the Proctor’s duties.
